About the final project for: Artistic Portrait with Watercolors

Artistic watercolor portrait

“We have reached the end of this course. I hope I have given you new tools and methodologies to face your watercolor portraits, I am sure that now it will be much easier for you to solve and consider a watercolor portrait. Now that you have a little more knowledge about watercolor materials, you will be able to differentiate which type of brush you are more interested in for each situation and which is the best paper for your purpose. You know the main volumes of the face and its basic proportions in order not to "get lost" in a portrait and bring more realism to it. We also saw the different ways of working with watercolor, either dry or wet, and the different ways to obtain the color, always looking for the interaction of color and tonal multiplicity. In addition, you now know a simple and practical drawing method to perfectly fit your portrait exercises. You learned that by joining the simple methodology of grisaille and obtaining the flesh tones, by superimposing cold and warm colors, your portraits will reach another level. The overlapping of warm and cold colors, the tonal multiplicity, the dry and wet work, one phase after the other, respecting the waiting and drying times, adapting to the needs of the portrait and the work, are the keys to our project. Now is the time to do your own work. Change your palette, start with warm colors, use photos from your cell phone or taken in the sun, give expression to your works and give them your essence. It's time to take what you have learned and transfer it to your own work. For now, I say goodbye, it has been a pleasure to show you my way of working and my way of seeing the painting. I will be at your disposal in the forum, as much as my professional and family life allows me, be patient. I encourage all of us to participate and exchange experiences, ways of working, resolutions, and results. I am sure that you have a lot to contribute to the community and that I myself can learn many things from you. Also, if you feel like it, show us your progress through Instagram with photos and the hashtag #AleCasanovaDomestika. A big hug and see you next time. ”

Then we looked at my influences, artists that inspire me and who have changed the way I look at art, and then we looked at the project we would work on during the course. We got to work straight away and looked at the materials. I showed you the difference between good and bad paper, the characteristics of brushes, as well as all the materials we were going to need.
