Watercolor is a beautiful artistic technique in which patience and talent are decisive. The talented painter Alejandro Casanova works works the technique of oil and, mainly, watercolor. His extensive experience has allowed him to develop a technique in which color and light are the fundamental axes of his work and works from the superposition of layers reflecting the forms generated by light, to the shadows on the face and bodies.
In this course Alejandro will teach you to make an artistic portrait in watercolor, using a clear and infallible method. You will be able to know the complete process of the realization of a work: the choice and realization of photography, drawing and, of course, the use of color in watercolor.
About this course
You will start by knowing Alejandro, his career with painting and watercolor, as well as his main influences and favorite authors.
You will make an introduction to the different materials that exist and you will learn basic concepts of proportion and volume of the head, forehead and face, in order to start drawing.
You will enter the world of color in watercolor, learning concepts of lighting, volume and color, by making flat inks and spheres. You will discover the difference between applying dry or wet watercolor, as well as the different ways of mixing the color. You will learn more color concepts and the types of gradients you can do.
You will try a method to transfer an image to paper using a grid system. Next, you will learn to work with the grizzly.
You'll see how to enter warm colors to match the color of the portrait and how to make color overlays. You will know the color of the nexus that serves to unify warm and cold, and you will see how to apply it; also opaque or semi-opaque layers to clean and introduce deeper tones.
Alejandro will teach you different compositions and illuminations to make your portrait in watercolor, then he will teach you to modify it with your tablet or computer to get a lot of tones that will facilitate the painting process.
You will face the first spots of a portrait with a base color, seeing how to select the colors, intensity and brightness of each layer that will configure the portrait. Then you will configure the personality of the face by detecting and getting the key points, through layers and spots of color.
Finally, you will discover resources that will help you solve possible problems that may arise; and you will learn to apply the final details to your portrait.

Alejandro Casanova was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1981. He studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and then moved to Tenerife where he continued his training in doctoral studies. In addition, he has obtained several national and European research grants and different plastic arts scholarships.
His work focuses on the body and the portrait as an excuse for plastic creation. He paints in oil and mainly in watercolor, a technique that allows him to work quickly and develop figurative painting, through transparency and chromatic richness. His work has allowed him to exhibit in different cities of the national and European territory; besides allowing him to develop his teaching work with a multitude of workshops in Spain.
