For example, the shoulders of the character, the head, maybe some of the stairs the character is walking on, maybe we have some more stairs here and then a flat surface. I'm painting way way way too much, but that's usually the technique I'm using. I add too much and then I subtract with a mask. And then I put a mask, switch to a softer brush and I start taking things away to achieve this very soft look.
