About the final project for: Introduction to Abstract Painting

Introduction to Abstract Painting

“Thank you all for joining me! It’s been a pleasure to share and express something so meaningful and personal to me. I believe we are all called to make and appreciate art but how we express it can vary from person to person. The creative act is a type of language that one learns to speak and, hopeful, to add vocabulary to it. You're now more than ready to do your final project with an open mind and heart. Consider the beauty and privilege of joining up with something beyond yourself. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your process: The Surface First, choose a large surface to paint on

Draw! Draw abstract marks, shapes and gestures on your surface.
Paint! Apply 2-3 thin layers of paint to form large shapes.
The Artwork Continue to refine your piece by adding and subtracting to create a consistent concept and aesthetic. Lastly, reflect on your work to determine when it’s done and what you can learn towards future work.
If anxiety arises while working on your project, remind yourself there's always time to make changes. You don’t need to know the outcome or timeline—just stay committed to the process and let go of the results for now. I can't wait to see your project! When you finish your final project, don't forget to share your images on the forum! It will be amazing to exchange experiences and see your paintings. See you soon!”

Fellow speakers of this language can be few and hard to find. There's been times where I felt like I was the only one who could hear its call. But over the years, I've found so many others who speak and appreciate the same langua...”
