Here's a box that I found lying around the house. This is what we would call real size or 1:1 scale. Here I've recreated a smaller piece. This is 1:6 scale, and on top of that is 1:12 scale. Now, what it means to have 1:6 or 1:12 scale is that you're shrinking down each dimension of the real size object by 6 times or by 12 times.
