About the final project for: DIY Miniature House & Furnishing for Beginners

DIY Miniature House & Furnishing for Beginners

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for taking part and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the miniature interior you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: Inspiration Gather the inspiration for your miniature space and decide on the interior style you like for your miniature space. Templates Scale and create templates for the pieces of furniture you would like to recreate, or familiarize yourself with the templates provided in this course. Material Prep Cut out the wood and fabric according to the templates and put them together, paying special attention to creating strong joints and clean finishes.

The Hanging Niche Cut wood to create the hanging niche, and make sure to drill and cut out hanging holes. Cut and install framed Plexiglass windows if you want them.
The Wall and Floor Treatments Decide on the wall and floor treatments you would like to apply to the niche. Make them and glue all the pieces of the niche together.
And that's all! I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I will be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community. See you there!”

“ Final Project Hello, we've reached the end of the course. I hope you've enjoyed it, especially if it's the first time that you've waded into this magical little world. The miniatures that I've shown you are just a starting point. Once you've gotten comfortable with creating in wood and fabric, you can branch out and creating your own templates and pieces of furniture. My best advice for completing the final project is to stay true to scale. That means not only the size of the object but also the materials that you're using to create it. Staying true to scale helps to create a more realist...”

Wei Xu, or Honey Thistle as she’s known online, is a miniature artist from Toronto, Canada. She has always enjoyed making things, and first started posting her creations on a creative forum during high school. She experimented with everything from crochet bags to buttons and brooches before going on to study at business school. After working in the corporate world for a few years and running an Etsy shop part-time, Wei left her job to pursue her passion for craft. She began selling jewelry and small decor while creating small sets for animation as a hobby. But, after posting her mini furniture, plants, and other interior details on Instagram, she quickly attracted a community of followers.

Since then, Wei has worked with clients including Madewell, Pottery Barn Kids, Walmart, and Hunker. She has also been featured by Chatelaine Magazine, CBC Arts, and Buzzfeed’s Nifty.
