About the final project for: Ikebana: flower arrangement for beginners

Introduction to Ikebana

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of the course. Thank you so much for taking part. I hope you have gained a deeper understanding of ikebana and enjoyed the process of creating your own ikebana arrangements. Now it's time to finish or present your course project if you have already finished it: a naturalistic arrangement with a focus on water and a modern freestyle arrangement using only leaves. Try to use materials that are seasonal to where you live. Remember that ikebana is seasonal, so you can create the same arrangement using different materials and it will look quite different. I encourage you to try this out and share the results in the forum as well. As a reminder, I have summarised the main steps you should take to complete your project: Examine Branches and Flowers Carefully select and examine possible branches and flowers to use in your arrangement, noticing the front and the back of the leaves.

Choose Branches and Flowers Choose the flowers or branches that speak to you—there might be a particular curve in a branch or leaf that you consider to be particularly beautiful.
Select a Vase and Kenzan Select an appropriate vase and kenzan to complement your plant materials. Remember, you can also use homeware items as a vase.
Cut and Place the Branches and Flowers Cut the materials to size and place them on the kenzan, keeping in mind the basic principles of ikebana: asymmetry, negative space, movement, and depth.
Check the Result Take a few steps back and view your arrangement from a distance. If the kenzan is visible, cover it with either plant material or small stones in the colour of your vase.
Take photos of your final arrangements following the tips I gave you. Once your project is ready, upload it to the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it, adding a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. You can also post your pictures on social media to share your beautiful ikebana arrangements with the world.
Don't forget to have a look at what others have created using seasonal materials from where they live—this may give you added inspiration to create another arrangement using different materials. Domestika has a great community where you can share your work and keep learning. So join in, share your process, ideas, and doubts, and comment on others' work. I will be there too as often as I can to give you some feedback and answer your questions. I look forward to seeing what you have created! See you there! ”
