About the final project for: Gold Gilding on Glass

Gold Gilding on Glass

“Congratulations! You’ve made it through the course. Thank you for starting this journey with me - and this is a journey! Rather than be intimated about where to go from here, or frustrated at where you’re at now, be excited! You’ve got so much to learn. We never stop - and that’s such a fun thing. Make sure you check in on the project forum to update other students and me on where you are in the process. Let me show you an example of what I would like to see in your presentation: Explore Get comfortable with the materials, use them safely, and practice with them until they begin to feel natural. Work with the paints and the brushes to efficiently paint straight lines, horizontals, diagonals, and curves, to build up to painting full letters. The Design Look through the many links, books, and other resources I’ve provided to give you more guidance on letterforms, drawing them, and painting different types, to experiment with your designs after using my resource on reverse block lettering for this piece. ¡Lastly, create your own design!

The Artwork Use the correct materials to clean your glass and prep your water size. Then, flood the glass, and carry the gold leaf over to it. Allow this to dry, burnish the design, and repeat the gilding process to cover any holidays. Lastly, back up your design.
From here, you can photograph and share your work, spread the word, get involved in the community, sell your work at a cost you deserve, and package it to safely send out. Thank you for taking the time and patience to work through this course with me. It’s been a pleasure to teach you. Share your project on the forum by clicking the "Create your project" button. I’ll keep an eye on the community forum to help with any questions, give guidance and celebrate your achievements. But please, be patient it can take me a while to respond. In the meantime, I encourage you to see what your fellow students have been up to and comment on their posts. Now go gild!”

We kicked off with a little introduction to the history of signwriting and gilding, some of my influences and inspiration, a little information about materials, where to find them, and how to work safely with them. I gave you some resources to work with block lettering in reverse for water gilding on glass. Then I showed you how to lay the design out onto the glass. Next, we looked at how to clean the glass thoroug...”
