About the final project for: Rope Jewelry for Beginners: Make Your Own Necklaces

Rope Jewelry for Beginners: Make Your Own Necklaces

“You’ve reached the end of the course. Thank you so much for joining me. In this course, your project will be to make three necklaces using two macramé knots and the winding/wrapping threads technique. You can choose the colours and thickness of your rope and embroidery threads and how you want to finish your necklaces for a unique design. Make a piece of jewellery unique to you that you will feel proud to wear again and again. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your course project process: Practise the Knots Next, practise the two knots and the winding technique, and when you feel confident, you can start on your necklaces.

The Mood Board After that, make a digital mood board to inspire your rope colour and style choices and the overall design of your jewellery pieces. Think about what jewellery you would wear: big and bold or a more subtle, smaller style of jewellery? Spend some time browsing the internet. In particular, Pinterest and Instagram should give you lots of ideas which you can collate for easy future reference. Then you can choose your colour threads. Think about what colours you wear. Are you drawn to bright colours or more muted tones? What colours are there in your wardrobe?
The Necklaces Next, make the necklaces. Consider changing the design to suit your style. There are many ways to finish the necklaces.
Take your designs even further to make impactful statement pieces of jewellery. Have fun with it and play with ideas of what you want to make. While making your necklaces, remember to keep the tension consistent: don’t pull too tight or have the rope or threads too loose. If you’re not happy with a section of your necklace or the colour thread you have chosen, you can always undo it and start again. Be inspired by what you have learnt and the makers and artists I have mentioned, but don’t copy their work! Innovate, don't duplicate. Be sure to experiment by using different types of rope, more strands, creating surprising colour combinations, etc. Make different patterns with the embroidery threads. In other words, be creative and have fun. This is just the beginning, and I hope you will use your imagination and creativity to make some individual jewellery pieces. Don't forget to relax and enjoy the process; the repetition can be meditative. I sometimes like to make pieces whilst watching a box set in the evening. Any questions you might have, let me know. I’m always happy to help. Finally, I would love to see the pieces you have made, so share them in the forum and see what others who have completed this course have made. If you decide to also share them on your social media, please use the hashtag #BethPeglerDomestika so I can see your post! Good luck!”

“ Final Project Congratulations on reaching the end of this rope jewellery design course. You were great and I'm glad you reached the end and achieved so much. It's wonderful you chose to take this course with me and learn about this craft that I love to do. We began the course by looking at all the tools and materials that you need to use to complete your final project. I showed you the different knot techniques, the figure-eight knot, the lark's head knot, and the winding embroidery thread technique. Remember, you can practise as much as you want. If you go wrong, simply undo the knot and...”
