Since then, he has also collaborated as a freelance screenwriter on other series, including Buscando el Norte and Pequeñas Coincidencias, and has written screenplays for films such as Perdiendo el Este and La pequeña Suiza. His most recent film, A mil kilómetros de la Navidad, was released in over 50 countries on Netflix in 2021, ranking among the top five most-watched movies on the platform globally that same year.

In addition to his screenplays, Daniel has written short story collections like Manual de jardinería (para gente sin jardín) and Volar a casa, and has published more than a dozen children's books, some of which, most notably Hipólito el Hipnotizador, have also been published in Mexico. When he's not writing, he shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching narrative and screenwriting workshops.
