About the video: The Drawing from Life

Overview

“Knowing the human body and how it moves in space is the most important thing because you will always need it. The beauty of the exercise you will do in this lesson is that you are not at the academy, so you will have the freedom to interpret the figures as you like! It does not matter whether the design is similar or that you grasp the details: what matters is that you are able to trace the essential lines, the weights and the volumes. This exercise will help to understand the rules and then eventually force them into a more interpretative approach. ”

In this video lesson Emiliano Ponzi addresses the topic: The Drawing from Life, which is part of the Domestika online course: Excellence in Illustration: From Intuition to Method. Learn a method to cultivate lateral thinking, find inspiration, and create evocative images.

Partial transcription of the video

“Drawing from Life It’s important to be familiar with the human body and understand how it moves in space. That will always be helpful. The beauty of this lesson is that we're not at an academy, so you'll have the freedom to interpret the figure as you see fit. Everyone sees things differently, based on their style or previous knowledge, so we’ll do this exercise as a group group with Anita and Canio and with Fabiana as a model. At the end, we’ll compare the sketches we’ve made together to see how many ways there are to represent the same subject. We’ll do three exercises of different length...”
