About the video: Other Seams 3

Overview

“Here you will see how to finish joining the fabrics in layers, creating glazes and new color combinations that will give volume to the pieces. Next, we'll show you how to create a window, just like patches. To do this, you will need to create a pattern.”

In this video lesson Desedamas addresses the topic: Other Seams 3, which is part of the Domestika online course: Creative Sewing Techniques: Introduction to Bojagi. Learn the basics of Bojagi, or Korean patchwork, to craft stunning textile compositions made by hand or with a sewing machine.

“Other Seams As always, I place three fingers and pull. I’ve noticed that one of the two seams has gone inside the other. I’ll start ironing. Just up to the third finger, without burning yourself. This iron, even though it’s small, heats up a lot. It burns; it's not a toy iron but rather an iron that burns and that you have to be careful with, especially with the iron part. This one has a protective cover, but you still have to be careful. You can now see that we’ve left this part loose, but, yes, it is ironed and adhered along this seam. Now we'll sew this seam because we'll add another pie...”

Sisters Cecilia and Mercè González, founders of craft and textile art workshop Desedamas, started their silk painting journey by teaching themselves the technique as a hobby and also because of its therapeutic qualities. The two come from vastly different professional backgrounds: Cecilia is a trained technical draftsperson, and Mercè, a chemical engineer.

In the year 2000 they decided to turn their passion into a way of life and began to sell their work at craft fairs throughout Spain. In 2006, they began to combine silk with textile art, painting silk for patchwork pieces and working with specific techniques. They currently work in equal measure between craft and textile art, and also share their knowledge with others through different forms of training. In 2013, they both earned the Maestras Artesanas (Master Craftsperson) diploma.
