About the video: Design Philosophy: Thinking in Lines
Overview
“Clay is a very different material than molten plastic, therefore, you will learn the basic design philosophy of ‘thinking in lines’ that benefits from the unique characteristics of 3D printing with clay and will help you avoid some of its limitations. The end result is a design language fit for the material and process. ”
In this video lesson Unfold addresses the topic: Design Philosophy: Thinking in Lines, which is part of the Domestika online course: Introduction to Ceramic 3D Printing. Learn how to design and create ceramic pieces by combining digital modelling techniques with clay and 3D printing.

“ Design Philosophy: Thinking in Lines In this lesson, I'll show the differences between 3D printing in plastic and 3D printing in clay. I'll show you how you can turn these differences in a design philosophy and an aesthetic that I call "thinking in lines." Both processes rely on extruding material, but clay and plastic are very different materials. This boils down to two main differences. When we print with plastic, the material is molten to make it malleable. After depositing, it cools down very rapidly. The object that is being printed is already very hard, and can support all the next ...”
