“Pattern Work Pattern is a big part of my work. The great thing about it is it makes each piece of work completely unique. Now, we'll build on what we've already learned and add some exciting patterns to our image. The reason I like to add patterns to my work is because every time you do so, you'll get a different result. The nice thing about it is that this will make the work unique and different. You never know what will happen when you put a pattern over a bird or an animal that you've drawn and then play with the blend modes. As those colours that you've laid down interact with that patt...”

Gareth Lucas is a freelance illustrator from Essex, England. As a child, he loved to draw and eventually went on to study illustration at Brighton University. After graduating, Gareth worked on everything from label designs to anthology illustrations before going back to university to study for an MA in illustration. During that time, he taught graphic design alongside his studies and began experimenting with digital tools which allowed him to take his freelance career full-time in 2014.
Since then, Gareth has worked with clients including Abrams Books, Penguin, Birdseye, and Simon and Schuster. He also shares his illustrations with over 100K followers on Instagram.
