About the final project for: Landscapes with Oil Pastels and Crayons: Playing with Light

Landscape drawing in pastels: play with light

“We have come to the end of this course! Hope you have taken a liking to it and feel comfortable creating your own pastel drawing. Now is the time to prepare your final project. I encourage you to make your own creation, taking the time to seek inspiration and find the colors you like. I leave you below the main steps to follow to complete your project. This can be the drawing that you have already started with the exercises or you can make a new one! In any case, take care to document the different stages of your creation and add a brief explanation of what you did in each of them as well as your choices. The sketch Try out several different layouts to find the one you like and work out a range of colors. You can use photos to guide you or draw directly from your imagination. What is important when you observe and sketch is to forget what you know about colors and reproduce what you see really . You shouldn't hesitate to detach yourself from reality and trust your intuitions.

Report Transfer your sketch to a sheet in the size you chose (in my case it was an A3 sheet). The lines of the drawing must be light so that they are not visible through transparency. In addition, you can already anticipate the different techniques that you will use in the plans of your drawing.
Pastels Then lay down the colors in your drawing, using wax and oil pastels according to technique and precision. Work in planes: from top to bottom is a good technique to avoid streaks and dirt, but it's up to you to see what works for you.
Use the whole range of colors you have selected to create effects of light and contrast. While you are drawing, you can refer to your sketch and color intentions, but feel free to free yourself from them. If you think it might be appropriate to change one color or mix two, go with your intuition.
Digitization Once you are done, you can take a photo or scan your work for a scan. I advise you to retouch the colors in Photoshop so that they remain faithful to the original drawing.
Well done ! I can't wait to see what you have created. Publish your project on the forum. I also invite you to share with me your questions and needs for clarification. I will be happy to help you, step by step, and especially to see how you have appropriated this lesson that I took great pleasure in sharing with you. I will respond to your posts and questions as soon as possible, but in the meantime I encourage you to watch what your fellow students have been up to and comment on their posts. Your reviews matter just as much as mine! Finally, I would like to invite you to continue to create on a daily basis. Practice sketching and note-taking. It will be a wonderful way to progress! Thank you again, and see you soon!”

“Final Project Thanks for following this Domestika course. I hope you've enjoyed it and you now know how to use pastels to create drawings that you like. To continue your practice, I'll give you some other advice while reviewing these course steps. For example, for the sketches, it's very important to forget what you know, to really look, be attentive, and perhaps discover something new. Particularly for the colors, it's important to forget what we know. We know that trees are green and trunks are brown but if we really look, we can discover other colors, and that's where it becomes interest...”
