“Introduction to gouache In this lesson, I will explain the characteristics of gouache and you will see why it is the medium I chose to make my illustrations. Gouache is a water-based paint similar to watercolor, but, unlike watercolor, it is much more pigmented and, when it dries, it is completely smooth and opaque. Traditionally the gourd comes in different formats, but the main ones are in tube, in boat, in pill and lately some types of gouache have come out that call them "jelly", like these with a good consistency and are very good to start with.
