The first artist I'll tell you about and one of my biggest influences is J Dilla, also known as Jay Dee or J Yancey. J Dilla is the pioneer of this early lo-fi, boom-bap, Detroit hip hop sound starting in the early 90s and into the early 2000s. His style was very simple. He made all of his beats on the MPC.
