I love this artist's use of light especially the dramatic way he used it. By studying his work, I learned the chiaroscuro technique that is present in my work. Two of the pieces I admire most by this artist are "The Martyrdom of St. Matthew" and "The Seven Works of Mercy." Other sources of inspiration are Jan Davidsz de Heem and Cornelis de Heem.
