About the final project for: Online Portfolio for Children’s Book Illustrators

Online Portfolio for Children’s Book Illustrators

“You have reached the end of this course, so congrats to you! Thanks for trusting me to be your teacher, it’s been a pleasure. I truly hope you can find some of my methods useful. Now you are more than ready to create your own project. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your project: Your stories: Think about what kind of work you want to make and create your own unique stories, characters, and settings. For this first step, I highly recommend you take your time to discover what you truly want to do.

Illustrations: Create 10-15 illustrations to add to your children’s book portfolio. Start by sketching up your ideas until you find “the one”. Draw your characters and try to imagine how they would look if they feel happy, sad, anxious, or any other emotion. After that, draw your settings and add the details you want, besides, draw your characters in the settings and look at how they work together.
Procreate: Finish your illustrations in Procreate as I showed you. Add colors, line work, textures, and everything you want to. Take care of every detail you have to. Besides, upload those images in an organized manner to your new online portfolio or create your very own physical portfolio. And finally (and most importantly!), share your work!
Before you start working on your portfolio, I highly recommend you take your time to understand your influences. Once you get why and how they inspire you will be able to create those emotions in your own work. Share your portfolio with your fellow peers on the Domestika forum and please interact with and comment on other posts who share their portfolio as well. Remember, your portfolio is a living, breathing thing and you’ll constantly want feedback to improve on your work as you go along! Don’t give up if nothing comes out as you thought, take a deep breath, be patient and loving with yourself, and try again. Enjoy your process! Remember that your stories are stories that no one else can tell. Thank you so much for taking this course with me. See you soon! ”

Now that you have all the tools you need to create an outstanding children's illustration portfolio, go out there and show the world what you've got. A couple of things to remember, create work that makes you happy and that mirrors the kind of work you want to receive. A blank page is scary. Starting your portfolio can be a scary thing, but please use the Domestika Forum to share your process and I'...”
