About the final project for: Upcycling Vintage Furniture with Painting Techniques

Upcycling Furniture with Paint and Illustration

“Congratulations! You have now completed your Final project! It has been a pleasure to teach you some of the skills you will need when beginning to upcycle furniture. Thank you for following along with me. It is always important to prepare and seal your chosen project properly to make sure it lasts the test of time, as long as we do this, in terms of the design you are free to experiment and make your project your own. When working with paint there are many possibilities and I hope that I have given you some good ideas on where to start, however you can adapt what I have taught you to your own style, keeping a design simple or more complicated, it is entirely up to you. Now, let's go over the main steps you had to follow. Remember that your project is a journey, the more and more you practice and gain confidence the more complex your painted design could be. First, gather all your materials and make sure you're not missing anything important. Then, you need to source a piece of furniture. If you struggle to find inspiration, drop by a charity or secondhand shop. You can find amazing pieces there.

Use a sketchbook or mood boards to record your own ideas and choose a colour scheme.
Once you have prepared the piece following the procedure you have learnt in Unit 3, it´s time to apply some of the painting techniques I showed you. In this course you learned how to paint with chalk paint, how to create an ombre effect using several colours and how to apply botanical decorations to your piece. I find these methods really helpful and just remember that mistakes are a normal part of the process. If things go wrong, we learn how to make them right and our projects will only benefit in the long run!
If you're planning to promote and sell your pieces, don't forget to create a vignette to enhance its beauty and take a photo of the composition to post it on social media. Here are staging examples with the pieces I used for this course.
Thank you so much for learning with me, and don’t forget to show me your projects in the forum. I would love to see how your piece turned out and offer any advice if you need it. Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions, I would be happy to help! Speak soon! Chloe. ”

“Final Project Well done! You've completed this course. Thank you for following along with me. You now know how to prepare and apply a painted finish on your furniture in 3 different ways, but if you like, you can use only one piece for all the techniques you've learned. When sourcing a piece, keep your eyes open for potential. Look out for natural wood, pretty shapes, and nice hardware. Second-hand items can often be better quality and a lot cheaper than the price of new ones. Look out for maker's mark stamps or stickers, as this can be a sign of quality. To get inspiration for your project...”
