I suggest experimenting on some sample boards first, or you may have bits of wood lying around at home. If you're getting started on your upcycling journey, I recommend using chalk paint. It's a good beginner's paint, sometimes you don't even have to prep. That said, there are complex things you can do with chalk paint. You can create beautiful artwork and amazing paint effects.
