About the final project for: Dip Pen and Ink Illustration: Capturing The Natural World

Dip Pen Illustration: Capturing The Natural World

“Congratulations! You've made it till the end of the course. I hope you enjoyed this journey and that you now feel better equipped to create your own dip-pen illustrations. Before moving on, let's recap the main steps I took to make my illustration: Firstly explore a few rough concept ideas on a separate piece of paper. I recommend that you take a sketchbook, and spend some time in nature, observing your sorroundings and paying attention to details. Draw everything you find interesting. You can also draw inspiration from reference photographs. Then plan out the border on your paper in pencil and begin sketching a composition that you like using a combination of the reference you have collected from photos and sketchbook drawings and collected copyright free photographs.

Begin working on the outline with your spoon nib dip-pen. Remember to use thinner lines for light areas, darker for areas in shade. Add solid black with a paintbrush where the darkest shadow is. Once the ink is completely dry, rub out all the sketch lines but leave the pencil lines for the border.
After that, start adding your cross-hatching to the outline with your mapping nib or G-nib. Remember where your light source is coming from and think about the different types of textures you would like to describe. Finish by using a ruler and fine line to add a border over your initial border planning lines.
Now it's your turn to share your Final Project by clicking on the "Create your project" button above and following the same process. Try to be creative and make something that's unique. I also encourage you to participate in the forum by providing feedback to your classmates. You can learn a lot from other people's constructive criticism! I'll try to check the forum as often as I can to answer any questions you may post. Please be patient if it takes me a while to respond. I might be busy working on my own projects. I can't wait to see your illustration! See you in the forum! ”

“Final Project Thanks for taking my course and working through the lessons with me. I hope you've enjoyed it and found the nature around you inspiring. Look for landscapes around you that you have a connection with and this will make your work more personal. Remember to use the worksheets and explore different types of mark making. This will help you when creating your final piece. My final project is just a guide, and I'd love to see you go out and find all the diversity that you have around you in the world and recreate that in your final project. I'll be available on the Forum to answer y...”
