About the final project for: Negative Watercolor Painting for Children's Illustration

Negative watercolor techniques for children's illustration

“You have reached the end of the course and now you have all the tools to start so prepare your workspace and your mobile phone to record your process and publish your project. I am very excited to see your process! Before saying goodbye, I would like to show you an example of how I would like to see your final project: Find an idea and make some sketches Create a list of keywords, either from a text or from a topic that you want to address. Use them as elements in your practice exercises and first sketching ideas. Do not be left with a single sketch, I recommend that you do at least three so that you can choose the one you like the most.

Decision making Once you have the idea clearer, make decisions regarding the framing, the line, the overlapping of elements and personal criteria, keep in mind that when you want to apply the negative watercolor technique there must be some overlap of elements in the illustration.
Work on your illustration Transfer the drawing of your clean sketch to a watercolor paper to start planning and thinking about how to paint, reserving the most illuminated areas. Step by step and letting it dry completely before painting each new layer, taking photos and videos. Also, do the last details and textures with colored pencils and some sparkles with white gouache to finish your illustration.
Digitization Digitize your work and also prepare all your files to share the contents recorded with different types of publication as a complete project in a professional digital illustration portfolio such as the Domestika platform. You can also post your project on Instagram, Behance, or TikTok.
Take this opportunity to take people on a visual tour of your work. Remember that making mistakes is part of the PROCESS. Try it, get it wrong, practice and start over if necessary. Learn to enjoy the process and let watercolor do its thing without trying to control everything. Let the watercolor flow into your illustration! Try to find texts or ideas different from the ones I used for my project, or if you decide to use the same exercise you already know all the alternatives to create a different image, dare to create something unique! Do not forget to share your process in the forum and also your doubts, comment and respond to the posts of your colleagues, as this helps our work and community grow. Please have a little patience while I review your process, as as a professional I have other work to submit and I must find the right moment to evaluate your final project or answer your questions in the forum. In the meantime, it would be great if you could interact with other students, give advice or help in the course forum, since everyone's opinion counts and not just that of the teacher. I want to ask you one last thing, every time you create something, show it to the world, let others know your creations! Finally, thank you very much for allowing me to accompany you here, I hope that the course has helped you to better understand the technique and to trust more in yourself and in your work. Thanks for getting here! See you on the forum!”

“Final Project We have reached the end of the course and you should have an illustration based on the text you chose. Thank you very much for letting me accompany you in this process and I hope that the lessons and the advice that I gave you have been useful in your process. I invite you to do the exercises of basic techniques with persistence and patience, because as you work with your tools and materials you will understand better how they work and how they behave.
