Faride Mereb
A course by Faride Mereb
Faride Mereb, born in Venezuela and now living in New York City, is an award-winning book designer and editor. As a teenager, Faride worked for a newspaper and soon developed an interest for typography. She was also a library assistant at school, and was struck by the cover of the first book she bought, 12 Cuentos Peregrinos by Gabriel Garcia. These were the foundations of her strong connection to books and printed material. She studied Graphic Design at university, and is currently a visiting scholar at Columbia University.

In 2014, Faride founded the publishing house, Letra Muerta, where she has published eight titles to date. She has won multiple awards in Latin America, Europe, and the US, including winning in both categories for AIGA Awards' 50 Books, and 50 Book Covers. She was also awarded gold in the editorial category in the Latin American Design Awards. Faride is a member of the American Printing History Association, The Bibliographical Society of America, and Center for Book Arts, and has collaborated with numerous companies such as Penguin Random, and Ugly Duckling Presse. When not working with her publishing house, Faride also teaches at the Center for Book Arts.
