“Separating the Painting into Individual Layers In this lesson, I'll show you how to isolate specific parts of your painting, so you can edit those individually. Let's jump back into Photoshop. Here, I've got my first Edit 1 of my final artwork. Now we're gonna separate this painting into various layers, to edit things individually. I'm gonna turn off, by clicking the eye icon there, the graphic design elements, and I'll work my way from the back to the front of the image and slowly isolate those. First, I'm gonna get that sky on a separate layer. I'm gonna highlight that area, press Control...”

Owen Gent is an artist and freelance illustrator who specializes in book cover design. Growing up in Devon meant he was inspired by nature from a young age and always dreamed of being an artist. He went on to study illustration in Falmouth in Cornwall, and there, began experimenting with telling stories through the traditional and digital painting techniques which are now an integral part of his work.
He currently creates from his studio in Bristol and has worked on everything from editorial illustration and advertising to record sleeve design and animation. During his ten-year career, he has worked with publishers including Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, and Vintage and had his work recognized at the D&AD Awards, International Illustration Awards, and Cannes Lions - International Festival of Creativity.
