“Presentation of Materials In this lesson, we'll see the materials I use for my illustrations and we'll see the tools you'll need throughout this course. The first thing we'll need is a book. I'd suggest choosing something that you know, you've read a few times and you love. You can choose any book, but if you wanna get straight into the cover design and not spend time reading, I'd recommend something that you know well. I'm gonna use a highlighter to jot down any notes and highlight any quotes or descriptions that I particularly like, but if you don't wanna ruin your book, scribble those do...”

Owen Gent is an artist and freelance illustrator who specializes in book cover design. Growing up in Devon meant he was inspired by nature from a young age and always dreamed of being an artist. He went on to study illustration in Falmouth in Cornwall, and there, began experimenting with telling stories through the traditional and digital painting techniques which are now an integral part of his work.

He currently creates from his studio in Bristol and has worked on everything from editorial illustration and advertising to record sleeve design and animation. During his ten-year career, he has worked with publishers including Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, and Vintage and had his work recognized at the D&AD Awards, International Illustration Awards, and Cannes Lions - International Festival of Creativity.
