“Layering In this lesson, I’ll show you how to layer with gouache, colored pencils and pastel colors. As I mentioned earlier, traditional gouache is water-based. Knowing how much water you should add becomes a very tricky issue when layering, especially cheaper brands which don't contain enough pigment. They’re even more watery and become a muddy watercolor. It may happen that in your gouache set some colors are less opaque than the others.
