Introduction to Illustrated Bullet Journaling
“We have now come to the end of the course. I really hope you have enjoyed learning about bullet journaling as much as I have enjoyed teaching you about it! You now have all the basic tools to start your own bullet journal. You’ve learned about materials and gained insight to how to choose a journal that will suit your needs. We’ve also discussed that there is no need to let a lack of materials hold you back from starting a journal. Please don’t forget you can literally start with just a notepad and a pen and that there is plenty of time to build a collection of materials. Also remember you can practice as much as you want on scrap paper. You’ve also learned all of the key components of bullet journaling, meaning you can start your journal in an informed way. Start however you feel comfortable from super simple to as creative as you wish to be - just remember that your bullet journal should work for you rather than the other way around. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you don’t have time for your bullet journal and if that does happen, take a breath and simplify your process until you are in a position to be more creative again. You’ve also learned about trackers and creating personalised collections in your journals. I want to encourage you to include content in your journal that is of interest to you. This is your journal and it should contain anything and everything you’d like it to. Again, don’t censor the content of your journal just because you are planning to share any pages on social media. You’ve learned how to use a blurring app to hide any content you don’t feel comfortable sharing. Your journal will hopefully develop into a personal organiser, mindfulness tool, a way to work through any problems you are having, a sketchbook, an aid to help you save money or all of these things, and more! Your journal theme will also reflect your personality and interests and I can’t wait to see what you create. I look forward to seeing your hand lettering and journal pages and I really want to encourage you to support each other via the forum. The Domestika website is also a great place to showcase and share your work and you can use the website as an online portfolio. I will be right here with you continuing my own bullet journaling practice and I look forward to answering your questions or providing you feedback which I will ensure I do as often as possible. I wish you happy journaling. Annie ”

Annie Weir - the artist behind A Journal by Annie - specializes in bullet journaling. She studied graphic design at university in her home country of Scotland, but Annie never went on to work in graphic design roles and instead chose to pursue her love of painting and traditional illustration. In 2017 she discovered bullet journaling by chance on Instagram, and fell in love with the activity. So much so that in 2018 Annie started her first ‘proper’ bullet journal and created her Instagram account @ajournalbyannie to share her journaling online.
It wasn’t long before brands and potential clients began noticing her work and she was able to turn A Journal by Annie into a business. She has collaborated with various brands and publications including Rescue Remedy, My Life Handmade, Gaston Luga, and Simply Lettering Magazine. As well as this Annie also sells her artwork and products online.
