About the video: Select the point of view and define the drawing bases

Overview

“In this class, we will start by selecting where we will position ourselves and define the bases of our drawing (selection of the “Theme”, point of view, material, format, orientation, among others). Then, where and how to place the “horizon line”, detect how many vanishing points we will draw and how this will depend on the option of each student.”

In this video lesson yolahugo addresses the topic: Select the point of view and define the drawing bases, which is part of the Domestika online course: Architectural Sketching for Urban Illustrations. Discover the art of urban sketching by using perspective and composition techniques to bring your ideas to life.

Partial transcription of the video

“Select the point of view and define the bases of the drawing We are finally in a place where we chose for the final project. I usually sit with my bench in the best possible point of view. However, here in this course, and in a way that you can better understand and that it is easier to control mainly ambient noise, we chose a hybrid space that is half inside, half outside. We have the windows open. I hope there is no problem with the noise. We are trying to work towards that, but I don't think it will change. I chose this space, because it brings together characteristics that I really like...”

Hugo Barros, also known as yolahugo on social media, is a Portuguese artist currently living in Valencia, Spain. His love for drawing stretches back to his childhood, and the streets are his main source of inspiration. He creates illustrations of complex spaces that not only portray their physical characteristics, but also convey their atmosphere.

He starts his creative process by switching between quick strokes and splotches of color, a secret technique that he's been teaching since 2005 as a professor at the Technical School of Architecture of Valencia. As a member of the urban sketchers community, he also teaches urban illustration courses in a number of countries and regularly exhibits his work in Europe and the United States. Winner of the "Coup de coeur" award and the "Sketch 4 Freedom Contest," he also illustrated the storyboard for the movie We the Animals. Since 2010, he posts his sketches daily on his blog titled "a fresh drawing everyday."
