Architectural Sketching for Urban Illustrations
“I hope you have enjoyed the content of this course and that you have understood all the information I have provided. The whole team worked hard so that you can understand and enjoy it and that all classes are useful and interesting. I tried to share with you, step by step, my work method and the whole process resulting from my experience of tens of years to develop the final project of this course. I hope that you CAN take advantage of this advice in your final project of the course and, in the future, when drawing in your house or on the street! Although this is not a watercolor course, I apply color to the drawing in order to try to better convey the atmosphere (chromatic characteristics, temperature, depth, among others) of the chosen space so that you can learn to represent the environments that most captivate you. Don't forget that the basis of this course is not to impose a method or a style on you, but to stimulate your creativity by showing you my personal process of representing urban spaces and communicating their atmosphere. I hope, therefore, that you will find your own style of discovering your world, drawing by drawing. These are some parts of my creative process throughout the course until I reach the result.

“Final project Dear students, we have reached the end, thank you very much for watching. At the beginning of the course, we saw the materials I used the most so that you can choose the ones that best suit you. This course has as its backbone the concepts of perspective, but we worked to extend it beyond this basic structure. I explained how, when and why I use color in my drawings, how to lose the fear of drawing or how to draw every day. I also showed some commands that I use in Photoshop to treat my drawings on Instagram. But you can also use other programs that I recommend like Snapseed. ...”

Hugo Barros, also known as yolahugo on social media, is a Portuguese artist currently living in Valencia, Spain. His love for drawing stretches back to his childhood, and the streets are his main source of inspiration. He creates illustrations of complex spaces that not only portray their physical characteristics, but also convey their atmosphere.
He starts his creative process by switching between quick strokes and splotches of color, a secret technique that he's been teaching since 2005 as a professor at the Technical School of Architecture of Valencia. As a member of the urban sketchers community, he also teaches urban illustration courses in a number of countries and regularly exhibits his work in Europe and the United States. Winner of the "Coup de coeur" award and the "Sketch 4 Freedom Contest," he also illustrated the storyboard for the movie We the Animals. Since 2010, he posts his sketches daily on his blog titled "a fresh drawing everyday."
