About the final project for: Introduction to Fashion Design

Introduction to fashion design

“We have reached the end of the course! Thank you very much for your interest in taking it and for accompanying me in this creation process, which I hope will motivate you to start with your own projects and wardrobe creations. The further you get into the world of gestures, shapes, textiles, and fashion semiotics in general, you will realize how huge, complex and fascinating this world of expression is. By working the research process in the course, we understood how important visual and sound conscious observation is to carry out an author project; as it is a capsule collection and it helped us to reflect on the first ideas. Remember that observation is a tool that you can exercise at all times, and the deeper your observational analysis, the more resources you will have to come up with authentic proposals.

Then I showed you the conceptualization process, in which we made concept maps that served as a record of the creative process and to take the first concrete definitions of our ideas. The great value of the registry is being able to refer to it at any moment of the process; In moments of doubt or questioning, it will help you clarify and reconnect with the initial spirit of your idea, it will also be the guide that gives coherence to your proposal. Then we wrote the manifesto, a list of key concepts under which the collection would be guided, this allowed us to specify the first formal definitions, such as colors, the user definition, among other design variables.
Through sketches we began to give our proposal a visual shape. First I showed you how to make preliminary drawings to accentuate the gesture, then I showed you how to make the final sketches of the collection; where we work on silhouettes, movement and textures, which are essential to give life to the collection. Remember that the sketch is expressive, it doesn't have to be a perfect drawing; It is a drawing that emphasizes the main characteristics of your creations in a free way. If you don't feel confident with drawing, you can lean on figure books, which can be very helpful in learning body poses and helping you release your hand.
In assembling the collection we learned to order the final designs, to create the common thread of the collection and highlighting its narrative. I also showed you the details that make up a wardrobe technical sheet and I showed you how to make this document in a detailed way, so that in the future it will serve you in communication with the person in charge of making the garments.
Finally we took up the final sketches and I showed you how to present them in a personalized lookbook, in a way that makes the collection visually stand out. Thus we complete the final project of the course: the design of a capsule collection, including the technical sheets and their presentation.
I hope that this course and my way of working on creative development will serve and inspire you to start your own path. I invite you to make your own clothing collections; that you go looking for the creative methods and forms that best suit you, that you go experimenting and making your own decisions. It's a great way to keep learning! Always remember that this is a personal path of discovery and connections where the only limit is your own creativity. To the extent that my work allows it, I will be attentive to your interactions, and I will respond and support your projects. I invite you to upload your final project; both the technical sheets and the finished lookbook, in order to receive feedback from the other colleagues, and continue to advance and create together. I wish you good luck, see you on the forum! ”
