Fantasy Sketchbook: Draw Characters from Imagination
“Thank you very much for participating in the course. I am very happy to have been your teacher and to have shared this time with you. I want to give you some last advice: • Try to make the sketches smooth, loosen your hand and not press the pen or the tool you use against the paper. Play with the opacity of the line, drawing light at first and slowly making the foreground lines darker. • Enrich your sketch by creating textures, use them for shading and to add details such as scales, jewels, skin wrinkles or clothing. And always keep in mind that we must take care of the balance between the parts that we recharge with texture and the smooth areas of the drawing, in this way we will achieve an elegant and balanced design. • Dare to explore and create different compositions with the help of small format drawing. Create small boxes in your notebook where you can design scenes with various characters, perspectives, and so on. This will allow you to practice relatively complex things in a simpler and faster way. Personally, it's what amuses me the most. • Imagine and draw mermaids or other fantastic creatures freely, have fun, exaggerate! It is important to go beyond the typical designs. Create a mermaid with gigantic fins that run all over her body, anemones on her skin where small marine animals live, or giant hedgehog spikes that sprout from her head accompanying the swinging of her hair. Allowing ourselves to imagine big is the most beautiful thing about drawing. • Draw without fear of making mistakes, failing is necessary to learn and grow in drawing. Sketch with confidence, it's just paper! The most important thing is to enjoy the process itself, the very act of drawing. That is the key to gain the habit of drawing daily, and this is what makes us improve day by day. Never forget that we draw because we like to do it. Now, before we say goodbye, let's review the key phases of the project. Throughout the course you will have made different drawings, but here I want you to show me the process of creating your mermaid. I would like you to briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. Composition Before you start drawing, think about composition to structure your drawing and avoid running out of paper.

“Final Project I can't believe we're done already. I’m happy to have been your teacher and to have been able to share my tips. I encourage you to be original and creative in doing your final project, and I’d like to give you some advice. Try to make your line fluid and confident. By starting with basic lines, we can create our own textures and explore creating patterns in our personal style. When we use texture in the drawing, we should aim for a balance. In this way, we ensure that the design is harmonious and reads well visually. So, find a balance between the more detailed parts of the dr...”
