The book didn't have many illustrations, but it had a lot of Rudyard Kipling's stories in which he explained why each animal is as it is, why a leopard has spots or a camel has a hump. There was one about whales, why they have whalebones, and I found it really interesting. I realized I didn't know anything about animals, so I wanted to know more. This led me to encyclopedias.
