Free Reference Images to Design Your Own Character

Character designer Dan Kelby shares free reference images to design your own unique character
Creating a character from scratch can be a daunting task. There is so much to consider, from where to find your inspiration to how to give your protagonist a life and personality of its own.
Luckily, we have an expert to teach us a few tips and tricks. Dan Kelby (@dankelby) is a UK-based character designer and animator, who’s created colorful characters for animation, illustration, comics, and games, with clients including Netflix, Disney Television Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Passion Pictures.

In his Live, he showed us the steps to creating a fun and unique character. Dan took us through the entire process, from looking at a brief to choosing different images for inspiration and creating his character in Photoshop.
You can find the reference images Dan has used to create his character by clicking on the free resource below, and the .pdf format will appear in the Downloads folder on your computer.
If you missed the Live, you can still watch him create his own character, and try it for yourself, by clicking here. To see more of his work, you can follow Dan on Instagram.
