Notebooks
When it comes to creating a bullet journal, your most important decision is to choose a good notebook. This means considering aspects like the kind of paper, its weight and the binding. A notebook format is best as it allows you to create horizontal double spreads, which gives you more room to work.
If you can, choose dotted paper. This makes it easier to create your own designs and borders as the little dots will be your guide.

Notebooks with elasticated bands that fasten around the pages are best for carrying in your bag, because they avoid your contents falling out or getting lost.
If you’re going to use thicker pens, (which release more ink,) go for a notebook with paper that weighs over 80 grams. If you’re using standard pens, 80 grams is fine.
Fineliners
Fineliners give your bullet journal plenty of style and personality. So let your creative juices flow and try a range of pen types, colors, and nib shapes.
Pens with a 0.1 or 0.5 nib are excellent for creating little details, symbols and drawings.

Classic and colored 0.4 pens are another good choice. As well as being cheap and versatile, they give you a delicate finish on most types of paper. Test out the vast range of colors available and experiment to see what works best for you.

You can also use highlighter pens to create titles, highlights ,and to emphasize the names of months, days of the week, or any other numbers or text that need extra emphasis.

Use a mechanical pencil if you want to draw with greater precision and delicacy. You could also use a standard lead pencil, but these provide a more rustic finish.

A selection of decorative papers
Always have different kinds of paper to hand. They should have a variety of shapes, colors and textures. This will give your compositions and collages additional points of interest.

Accessories
You will also need other little accessories, like paper clips or bulldog clamps to hold paper in place, rubbers, rulers and scissors to create structures, collages and drawings. Tippex is also essential.

Use washi tapes, those lovely rice paper sticky tapes with lovely designs that are popular in Japan, to give your notebook a unique touch.

Stickers are also a great element to add. They come in all kinds of sizes, colors and shapes allowing you to totally personalize your creation.
