This course has been updated with new additional resources to create a more intuitive, well-rounded learning experience.

A pop-up book constitutes a work of true engineering on paper, in which beauty, technique, and content go hand in hand towards creating a world in which the reader can dive in every time he turns the page. Silvia Hijano Coullaut, the founder of the studio Libracos, is an expert in this kind of publications, and she has worked for various brands, film producers and advertising agencies.

In this course you'll learn how to create your own pop-up book step by step, going through all the stages of the production chain: cutting, assembly, gluing, hinges, and binding. You'll discover different pop-up techniques based on a solid and functional construction so you can develop your own projects.

You'll begin your course by going through Silvia's career, briefly reviewing her experience and the many joys she has reported working with books. Then she will tell you about her influences and explain what the project of this course is. And so you'll start your way in the exciting world of pop-up books.

Silvia will give you some recommendations for building the foundations of a good job; Knowing how to use the tools and understanding the materials is essential for good pop-up development. Then you'll begin to perform your first mechanism practices to develop ease-of-hand and come up with structures that you can use in your own creations.

In the next unit, you'll start with the most creative part of the process: the development of the idea, following the chosen methodology so that you can compose your own book. Once you define everything, you'll get to work by building each of the pages until their final assembly, and the binding of the covers.

Finally, you'll discover different fields in which techniques similar to those learned in the course can be used.
