4 Reading Ideas for Children

Valentina Toro gives us four book ideas to inspire little readers

Book Day is approaching and it is common to find a lot of articles talking about recommendations for different ages and tastes. However, encouraging children to read is a job that needs to be done throughout the year. Children repeat what they see, so it is easier for them to read if they see their father, mother or, in short, those around them reading.
Reading has countless benefits at all ages, but even more so if it becomes a habit from infancy. Some of the most outstanding are:
1. Language development: regular exposure to books and different types of text enriches children's vocabulary, improves their verbal comprehension and strengthens their communication skills.
2. Cognitive stimulation: reading stimulates children's imagination and creativity, fostering their critical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
3. Fostering emotional bonding: Sharing reading time with parents, caregivers or siblings creates a warm and affectionate environment, strengthening the emotional ties between adults and children.
4. Development of social skills: through the characters and stories, children learn about emotions, interpersonal relationships and moral values, which helps them develop empathy and understanding towards others.
5. Expansion of knowledge: reading exposes children to a variety of topics, cultures and experiences that broaden their understanding of the world around them, promoting curiosity and interest in learning.
6. Improved concentration and attention: the practice of reading requires children to concentrate on the text and follow a sequence of events, which strengthens their attention span and their ability to maintain focus on a given task.
7. Stimulating creativity: Reading stories and fiction stimulates children's imagination, helping them to develop their ability to create, invent and express ideas in original ways.
8. Preparation for academic success: Children who develop reading habits from an early age tend to do better academically in areas such as reading comprehension, writing and general study skills.

What should children read? As with adult reading, there are an infinite number of children's books, it all depends on what the person you are going to give the gift to likes. However, there are classics that are infallible, a guaranteed hit for any boy or girl. To find out more about them, all you have to do is download the free document we leave you here.
