Don't miss the different pieces made with PVC cable or natural fibers that Belén shows us

Craftsmanship has been with us since time immemorial, and despite technological advances, its importance and beauty have never faded. Today, contemporary design brands such as Casa Atlantica have taken up these traditional methods to create unique and authentic pieces. Its founders, Belén and Lester, have had the opportunity to collaborate with major brands such as Loewe, peSeta and Nike, and their collections can be found in renowned stores around the world, such as the MoMa Design Store.

In this post, we will focus on basketry, a traditional art that Belén and Lester from Casa Atlántica have adopted and reinterpreted through different materials. In this video, Belén presents us with several pieces of basketry made with colored wires or natural fibers.

Basketry is an art based on the interweaving of flexible materials such as wicker, reeds or, in this case, PVC cables, to form objects for different purposes, from decorative pieces to furniture. Although this craft has existed since ancient times, Casa Atlantica has shown that there are still innovative ways to explore it.

The first example Belén shows us is a piece made with PVC cable in blue, yellow and white colors, with a checkered checkerboard pattern. Despite the modernity of the material, the end result has an undeniable charm that could be attributed to its artisanal essence. The choice of bright colors adds an extra dimension to the piece, transforming it into a decorative element that could be the focal point of any room.

The second piece moves away from vibrant colors and opts for a more natural approach. It is made of wicker, a traditional material in basketry, and features a more openwork weave that allows the glass inside to show through. This piece demonstrates how the art of basketry can merge with modern aesthetics without losing its traditional charm.

Finally, Belén shows us a piece braided with colored wire and a striped pattern. This design is a clear example of the versatility of basketry, capable of adapting to different materials and styles.

Belén and Lester have managed to convey the beauty and versatility of basketry through their products, immortalizing the past while creating objects that refer to the present. They have shown that basketry, like other crafts, can adapt to modern times without losing its essence.

If you have been interested in this millenary art and would like to learn more about these techniques, we invite you to join Casa Atlantica's online course "Basketry: bottles lined with colored wires". You will discover contemporary basketry techniques to fill your home with life with original pieces.

Basketry is an art that has survived and thrived over the years, thanks to artists and designers who, like Belen and Lester, value the authenticity and beauty of the handmade. Discover the magic of basketry and be enchanted by its versatility and undeniable charm.
