Interior design tutorial: 3 keys to space distribution

How to distribute the different elements in the interior design of a restaurant starting from the floor plan by Masquespacio

Masquespacio (@masquespacio) is a creative interior design consultancy formed by Ana Hernandez, creative director and Chris Penasse, executive director. They have been creating spaces full of life for 9 years thanks to handmade, artisanal processes and large doses of courage and effort.

Next, Ana will show you how to distribute from scratch the spaces in a floor plan. Don't miss any detail of her master class based on an example:

1. Where to start?

The first thing we need to know to start organizing the space are the main elements that the client needs in the space. In the project that Ana is working on, the client asked for the refrigerator to be one of the central elements, so it must be strategically located and it will be one of the first things to be placed. Then it is important to be clear about where the bathrooms will be located, taking advantage of the darkest areas and leaving those with natural light for other spaces.

2. Customer brand strategy

Another essential thing to consider for the layout of the space is the customer strategy. In this Kento case study, the client has created a takeaway restaurant and does not want the user to stay more than 30 minutes in the restaurant. This information is very important because it will affect where we place the tables, the refrigerator, the space we give to the dining area and the bar.

3. Regulations for spaces

Although we have left it for the end, it is very important to take this point into account since it affects the whole composition of the space. From what space has to be behind the bar, the kitchen, the distances between the bathrooms or the handicapped bathroom. Keep in mind that the measurements change depending on the city and the country, so it is important to always check it.

If you want to start a little more from the bottom, do it in his course:"Initiation to interior design", where you will learn how to achieve explosive results with limited resources by giving a new use to everyday objects following the philosophy of 'do it yourself'.
