Alejandro Segura

My name is Alejandro Segura, and I'm the artist behind Big Clay Stars, I live in the United States and I'm originally from Colombia.

Several of my first memories are related to clay in some sort of way. While other kids my age spent most of their time watching TV or playing video games, I was completely thrilled about making my own toys out of clay. Art has always been a part of my life, although I put sculpting on a hiatus, I kept drawing and painting through my high school and college years back in Colombia.

I got a major in Mechanical Engineering, and what I loved the most about it, was when it came to drawing and designing. However, it was only when I came to the United States in 2016 when I tried out polymer clay for the first time. After that, I started to study and learn about anatomy and sculpting from every book and video available on the internet.

After acquiring some of the basic skills needed to sculpt, I decided to use polymer clay as a medium to challenge beauty standards shown in the entertainment industry. In my opinion, those standards are unrealistic and can lead to mental and physical health issues. I like pop culture and really enjoy TV shows, movies, and comics, though I believe that some things should be done in order to relieve some of the constant pressure upon people, so they can have “perfect bodies”.

I believe that people deserve to feel related and represented by their heroes and their stories. I hope to keep spreading this message across the world, so far my figures have been sold in Europe, North, and South America. I will keep using social media as a means to share this message. By the way, you can find me as @BigClayStars.
