I enjoy using gouache so after I saw the intro with his beautiful color choices I was intrigued. He did not disappoint. He explained his method thoroughly. Watching him from start to finish was a good way to learn his method of blocking in all the shapes and turning them into detailed works of art.

L’approche des couleurs ouvre une toute nouvelle approche, simple et efficace et donnant des résultats impressionnants. De même pour la théorie des valeurs tonales, tumbnails et choix des couleurs pour le tableau traduites en approches simples, terriblement efficaces et qui simplifient énormément toutes les décisions à prendre avant de commencer à peindre.

I have taken several Domestika courses over the years. Tommy Kim’s instruction is among my favorite styles. Tommy’s delivery is friendly, clear, and concise. He has a wonderful way of sharing deeper content with ease for students of every level. I especially enjoyed his demonstrations of value and color, and am inspired to implement what I learned into my own sketches.

Tommy Kim's course is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn about gouache or even painting in general!

I learned foundation for urban sketching. It was really instructive course.
He explained how to choose scenes, see shapes and choose colors well.
I especially enjoyed watching how he develop his paintings and his brush work.
It would have been helpful if he showed his palette for color mixing. And I wish the reference photo was clearly shown.

I loved how he explained the theory of shapes and how to see the tonal values of the objects in the photo. I wish that he would have explained more about the color scheme and how he got to match a color to the tonal value he assigned for that object. It would have been helpful to have the original reference photo shown occasionally while he was painting and when the painting was done. Overall, a good foundation course. I love his simple impressionistic style.
