Tommy explains how he thinks about a scene and then goes on to show how he uses shapes, color, and values to decide on a composition that tells the story of his scene. He is clear and calm in his approach. Throughout the videos, he demonstrates and explains how to use his materials and techniques. The final project is an excellent summary of his process. I highly recommend his course.

This guy's work is so wonderful. He also teaches well. Many great painters are not good teachers. This one is pretty good! I like that he explains his set-ups.

Great class. I enjoyed gaining insight into Tommy’s unique sense of color and style. I can’t wait to get out and start painting my town plein air.

Wow! I went through his entire course in one shot today. Techniques/ methods are not only straight forward and easy to understand but also interesting to follow the lessons all the way. Tips / Dos and donts are value added. Well, all I need to do is to continue with my assignment/ final project for accomplishment of Tommy's courses. & yes, Recommended.

This was an excellent course and the instructor was very easy to listen to. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. It really inspired me to get out and try some outdoor painting. Would have been nice to have a photo of what was being painted in the resources so that if we wanted to follow along, we could. Look forward to seeing another course from you.

Learned a lot from the grouping of values alone. I've been a big fan of Tommy's art and I'm so excited to see his course here - fingers crossed there will be more? A girl can dream!

This is a great course to help you break down a complex scene into simple values and shapes. I love the idea of using a fan brush to block in your first layers of paint, it seems to be a lot more forgiving than trying to do it with a large flat brush. Tommy, you did an excellent job explaining your process, your approach is fresh and lively and I love your contributions to the world of gouache, I'm excited to give this a try, thank you!
