Laura Barker

Laura Barker is a New York City-based filmmaker who moved from São Paulo, Brazil to NYC ten years ago. She studied Screenplay at the New York Film Academy and concluded a course on Writing for Performance and The Entertainment Industry recognised by the University of Cambridge. She has since actively remained part of NYC's film, TV, dance, and theater industry.
Throughout her career, Laura has worked as the executive producer of "Hell Of a Pitcher" (2021) directed by Daniel Burity and on the production of the award-winning drama movie "Nasty Baby" (2015) by the director Sebastian Silva. She has previously worked in productions for TV channels such as NBC, Fox, CNN and directed for the Bric TV — an Emmy-winning channel. As well as film and TV, Laura has produced and coordinated for an array of theaters around the US, including the Abrons Art Center, MANCC and The Chocolate Factory Theatre.
After having collaborated with Kino Lorber to produce the press cover for "Bacurau" (2019) directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles at the 57th New York Film Festival in 2019, Laura saw the potential and cultural urgency of bringing an exclusively Brazilian Film Festival to New York City. Immediately upon, she began to conceptualize and create the NYBRFF.
