My father was an amateur artist who taught night school painting. I took art to my second to last year of school but then found that my 'academic' subjects interested me more. About a thousand years passed, and my mum had to go into a nursing home. She began to do a little bit of drawing, colouring and painting for the first time since she was a child and this inspired me. I took a weekend 'learn to draw' course to kickstart me, then found a weekly life-drawing session which I have been attending for a while. I want to be more free with my art and not to be afraid of colour - and to remind myself that it's never too late to learn.
