Emel Jurd

I am an artist. I am a painter with a degree from Sydney College of the Arts. I also create sculptures in clay, have done many mosaic and ceramic murals in my community with community members to address social and emotional issues and spent many years designing and creating jewellery for my own retail business.
For the last few years my main focus has been painting. I layer my canvas with hand printed designs, then paint on top of this layered base.
I also love to draw and create art journals full of painted, printed and collaged images.
I am an avid gardener and find peace and inspiration in plants, flowers and animals.
I am a mother of 3 children and have always worked in the community sector developing and facilitating creative programs to help participants deal with a wide range of issues, from domestic violence and mental health challenges to finding and value ingredients the meaning in each persons life.
I currently divide my time between parenting, painting, exhibiting and working with the elderly to help them to value their life experience and wisdom and to continue to learn and enjoy life.
I have an upcoming online exhibition with a UK based gallery and hope to create a collection of ceramics this year as well as continuing to paint.
