I am a graduate in Graphic Design from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 1999. With work experience in the fields of visual merchandising, advertising, event management, and creative workshops, I've always managed to keep my hand in the creative fields. I've never stopped moving forward with personal creative endeavors by taking classes and trying just about every design and fine-art medium. Moreover, I like the challenge of trying to integrate various materials into a visual statement. For me, it has always been a fun creative exercise. Some of my passions include mural painting, printmaking, up-cycling, and photography.
My passion for painting and sketching goes back a long time. I have been trying my hands on multiple mediums ever since I was a child. A few years back I softened towards wall murals and did a couple of them commercially.
The magic of photography has always intrigued me. My preference has always been to shoot in natural light.
I don’t think it’s possible to be a hands-on mom without saving anything and everything imaginable. Ever since I started doing craft activities with my kids, I have been hoarding recyclables. I think twice before I throw out old shirts, socks, juice cartons, bottle caps, old batteries ... everything seems to have the potential of a new life as a craft project. I have been lucky to have had opportunities come my way where I did short summer workshops in various schools and also conducted a workshop at NCA for Foundation course. It gleaned a lot of appreciation but the creative side of my soul did not let me rest and I knew I had to move on.
I was a part of an alternative education system at Edopia for three years as an art educator. I focused on the elementary school art program facilitating countless art projects. My background and diverse experiences in the field blended seamlessly with the holistic and alternative methodology of teaching arts. Currently, I am teaching Visual Communication Design as an adjunct lecturer at the National College of Arts, Rawalpindi Campus.
Amidst mundane chores and expectations from a mortal self, my inner peace comes from printmaking. My magical day comprises the rhythm of filer across the edge of a metal plate, etching needles scribing the surface, the sound of a roller changing from “quappy” to a hiss”, the hand-cranked press passing over an inked plate resting on the press bed, ready to produce multiple times its clone self … a day well spent!
