My mother taught me how to stitch and knit when I was 6. We lived in the middle west of the USA out in the country. There was nothing to do in the winter time. So the women and girls would gather in one another's homes and chat and stitch or knit. Stitching has always been a calming, meditative activity for me. I stitched on planes and trains and buses when I was a career girl and it goes with me today when I travel. Experimenting with different techniques and historical methods is always so much fun.
