I have been sewing since I was in Junior High School. I presently focus on Historical Attire (HA), covering everything from 17thc to the 20th century, with an emphasis on the Victorian era, Edwardian era, and the Rococo Era. This includes all period correct undergarments in order to achieve the correct silhouette of the period. My biggest gown was an Historical Victorian Bustle gown using 21yrds of fabric. My creative process starts with a sketch of what I want to create, then I look for a pattern that will get me where I want to go or close enough that I can modify it a bit. My fabric selections are determined by color, season of wear, time of day gown will be worn, and fabric content. You will probably laugh, but I need to touch my fabrics, and they tell me what they want to be. I have to have a connection with the fabric. I love taking a flat piece of fabric and creating it into a 3D representation of what I had envisioned, and then being able to actually wear it!
