I would never have called myself a creative or artist.
Growing up I was better at 'giving advice' on ways to 'improve' my classmates art rather than risk creating something of my own. I was technical and nerdy, then in adulthood practical and analytical. I grew up on comics, cartoons and computers and painting miniatures. In early adulthood I dabbled in image manipulation, playing around on the early days of Photoshop with adding street art to photos. I then went into a hiatus of anything I would call even resembling art for 20 years. I continued to adore the artwork created by the Games Workshop group, as well as varying styles of computer games, anime and the iconic Japanese water colour aesthetic.
In my late 30's the urge to create something grew, possibly from only working in knowledge work with no tangible outputs. I wanted to experiment with water colours. I created a handful of paintings, over the course of a few years and as I travelled I came across the concept of water colour and pen travel journals. Particularly the architectural styles. These called to me. I toyed with pen sketches and have finally in 2025 decided to sit down and do some courses to refine this style. As part of a greater reprioritisation of my life and to connect with my artistic self, I've set myself the challenge to 'sell' at least one artwork in 2026.
Influences would be Geiger, anything from the 1990-2000 Games Workshop artists, classic Japanese watercolours, and most recently Albert Kiefer's course here on Domestika (this is what drove me to sign up).
