When I was 5 years old, I fell in love with picture books - with Beatrix Potter’s paintings and Dr. Suess’ silliness. I studied writing and art in college, and then worked as a children’s librarian. I took such joy in reading aloud to preschoolers, but I still longed to make my own books. When I got married and had my first child, his tiny little heart inspired me to get to work. I remembered all that excites me about watercolor animals and painted and wrote during naptimmes and after my little ones went to bed. I haven’t had my great big breakthrough yet, but I am developing a body of work and moving toward professionalism. Currently, I live in Denmark with my family where I teach primary art and reading - perfect for me. But I still want to go deeper. I want to spend more time with my watercolor characters and eventually share them with the world. I am so excited to find Julie Mellan, as she seems like a kindred spirit.
